One of the most powerful destroyers constructed in World War II, the U.S.S. Kidd is typical of the Fletcher class destroyers built between 1940 and 1944. Not only did she carry every weapon ever deployed on a Fletcher destroyer, she also incorporates many improvements over the earlier Fletchers, making her the most efficient and effective vessel of the destroyer fleet. After proving her abilities, she joined Task Force 58 for the invasion of Okinawa, bombarding key targets, sinking floating mines, providing air raid warnings, and shooting down kamikazes.
