Several hundred turbo-electric drive tankers of this design were built during World War II. Construction of the vessels was standardized for optimum production to meet the needs of Uncle Sam during the second World War. After valiantly supplying our troops during World War II, the USS Kidd and the T2 Tanker served as the backbone of the tanker industry for many years.
