The third ship of Columbus's expedition, the Pinta was a square sail caravel. The sails consisted of a square foresail and a great mainsail, while the mizzen mast supported a long yard for lateen triangular sail. It had a poop quarterdeck and, unlike its sister-ship Nina, also had a forecastle. The Pinta was the fastest of the three ships, confirming the logbooks documenting that this caravel was often ahead of the two other ships during its joint voyages.
