The La Couronne was a 72 gun French three-decker built by the famous French shipwright Charles Monrieur of Dieppe and referred to as a galleon because of her long and wide cutwater and very high quarterdeck, with the armament on 3 decks. She was reputed to have been the first great ship of France and Cardinal Richelieu personally supervised her decoration and fitting out, while ornamentation was designed and created by the most famous craftsmen and artists of her day. La Couronne was 131 feet long and displaced 1,063 tons. She had a crew of 638. Constructed with exotic woods. |
